Why You Should Wear Sunscreen Every Day, All Year Round

UV exposure affects your skin even on cloudy days and in winter. Here is why daily sunscreen matters and how to make it part of your routine.

Many people assume sunscreen only matters on bright summer days. In reality, daily sun protection is one of the simplest habits for preserving skin tone, texture, and long-term skin health.

UV exposure does not disappear in winter

UVB changes more noticeably with season and weather, but UVA remains present throughout the year. It can pass through clouds and windows, which is why pigmentation and photoaging can continue to build up even on overcast days or indoors near sunlight.

What to look for in a daily sunscreen

  • Choose a broad-spectrum product that covers both UVA and UVB.
  • For everyday use, SPF 30 or higher is usually a practical baseline.
  • Pick a texture you can comfortably reapply, because consistency matters more than buying the strongest formula and skipping it later.

A routine that is easy to keep

Apply sunscreen after moisturizer as the last step of your morning skincare. If you spend extended time outdoors, reapply every two to three hours. Hats and sunglasses can add extra protection around the eyes and other high-exposure areas.

After skin treatments, sunscreen becomes even more important. Good procedures can improve the skin, but daily UV protection is what helps those results last.
